Dental Sedation for Nervous Patients

Dental Sedation for Nervous Patients

Feeling anxious about dental treatment should not stop you from getting the care you need!

At Cramond House, we offer IV sedation for patients who find dental treatment difficult, overwhelming or simply hard to face. Our aim is to make both routine and more advanced care feel more manageable, especially if anxiety has led you to delay or avoid treatment in the past.

Sedation allows you to remain conscious and able to respond while feeling deeply relaxed, helping treatment feel calmer, more comfortable and far less daunting.

Because your dental and sedation teams can plan your care together, treatment can be carried out seamlessly within the familiar surroundings of Cramond House, without the need to attend a separate clinic or unfamiliar setting.

A Calmer Way to Experience Dental Treatment

Dental anxiety can take many forms. You may have had a difficult experience in the past, feel uncomfortable with needles or dental procedures, have particularly sensitive teeth, or simply find it difficult to relax in the dental chair.

Sedation can make treatment feel far more manageable. Rather than asking you to simply cope with your anxiety, we can plan your appointment around it and create an experience that feels calmer from the moment treatment begins.

More Treatment, With Greater Comfort

Sedation can be used alongside a wide range of dental procedures, from fillings and root canal treatment to tooth extractions, dental implants and advanced gum surgery.

It can also be helpful if you have a strong gag reflex or find it difficult to remain comfortable during longer appointments. Your treatment and sedation are planned together so that the whole experience feels as straightforward and relaxed as possible.

What Does Sedation Feel Like?

A small amount of sedative medication is given through the hand or arm, gradually helping you enter a deeply relaxed, dream-like state.

You are not unconscious and can still communicate with our team when needed, but you are likely to feel much less aware of what is happening around you. Many patients remember very little of their treatment afterwards, which can be particularly reassuring if previous dental experiences have made treatment difficult.
