ICON® White Spot Removal
Do white spots make you hide your smile?
Our ICON® treatment offers a refined, minimally invasive way to reduce or virtually eliminate the appearance of white spots, brown speckling and uneven enamel, including marks left after braces. Without the need for anaesthetic or removal of healthy tooth structure, ICON® can transform their appearance to create a smoother, more even smile you can feel confident showing.
Why Do White Spots Appear?
White spots form when an area of enamel develops differently or becomes more porous than the surrounding tooth, causing it to reflect light differently and appear noticeably lighter.
They may develop following early demineralisation, orthodontic treatment, fluorosis, developmental enamel changes or childhood trauma. Because white marks can have different causes and depths, we will first assess them carefully to decide whether ICON® is likely to give you the result you are looking for.
How Does ICON® Work?
Rather than covering the tooth or removing healthy enamel, ICON® works within the white spot itself.
The area is gently prepared before a clear resin is allowed to penetrate the microscopic spaces within the affected enamel. It is then hardened with a dental curing light and carefully polished. By changing the way light passes through the area, the white spot can become far less noticeable and blend naturally with the surrounding tooth.
What Results Can I Expect?
For suitable cases, ICON® can produce a significant cosmetic improvement while keeping treatment very conservative. There is no conventional drilling or filling, and the natural shape of the tooth is preserved.
Some white spots respond more completely than others, particularly when they are deeper or caused by developmental enamel changes.
If ICON® is not the right treatment for you, we can also offer alternatives such as microabrasion, composite bonding and veneers, allowing us to choose the approach that best suits the appearance and depth of the white spot.
