Dentures
Dentures are removable, custom-made replacements for missing teeth. They can replace several teeth or a complete set, helping restore your smile, eating and speech.
At Cramond House Dental Practice, our bespoke dentures are carefully planned around your mouth, facial features and smile, with the shape, shade and position of the teeth individually selected for a comfortable fit and a natural-looking result.
Your Denture Options
The type of denture you need will depend on how many teeth are missing, the condition of the remaining teeth and what you would like to achieve.
Partial Dentures: Replace one or more missing teeth while fitting around the natural teeth that remain.
Full Dentures: Replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
Dentures can be made from acrylic or, in some cases, with a metal framework. Well-designed dentures can improve eating and speaking while restoring the appearance of missing teeth. They can also support the lips and cheeks, helping your smile and facial profile look more natural.
The shape, position and shade of the teeth can be carefully selected to suit your features, and we will talk you through the available options so you can choose what best suits your mouth, appearance and needs.
How Are Dentures Made?
Dentures are made specifically for your mouth and usually require several appointments.
We begin by taking accurate impressions or measurements of your mouth. We then record how your jaws meet and work with the dental laboratory to plan the position, shape and appearance of the teeth.
Before the denture is finished, you will usually have a trial appointment so we can check the fit, bite and appearance with you. Once you are happy, the final denture is made and fitted, with small adjustments made afterwards if needed.
Looking After Your Dentures
Remove and care for your dentures daily, leaving them out overnight and storing them in a glass of cold water.
We will show you how to remove plaque and food deposits safely and how to store them when they are not being worn. Avoid very hot water, as this can distort the denture.
For partial dentures, make sure to continue brushing any remaining natural teeth with fluoride toothpaste, as well as looking after your gums and tongue.
New dentures can take a little time to get used to. If they feel sore, loose or uncomfortable, let us know so we can check the fit and make adjustments where needed.
