Dental Check Ups
Regular dental examinations are an essential part of maintaining a healthy mouth.
They allow us to assess your teeth, gums and overall oral health, identify concerns
at an early stage and provide advice tailored to you.
At Cramond House Dental Practice, we aim to make every examination thorough,
comfortable and easy to understand, so you can make informed decisions
about your ongoing care.
New-Patient Examination
When you first visit Cramond House Dental Practice, we will ask about your medical and dental history, previous dental experiences, any concerns you have and what you would like from your care. We will then use a small mirror and probe to check your teeth, gums, bite and existing dental work. With your permission, we may also take appropriate X-rays. We will explain what we find and let you know whether you need home-care advice, monitoring, a hygiene appointment or further treatment.
Routine Dental Examination
At your routine check-up, we will look for any changes since your last visit and check your teeth, gums, bite and existing dental work. We may also give you advice on brushing, cleaning between your teeth, diet and anything else that could affect your oral health. How often you need a check-up will depend on your individual needs, some patients may benefit from more frequent appointments, while others can attend less often.
Urgent Dental Assessment
An urgent examination is for a specific problem, such as:
• Dental pain;
• Swelling or a possible infection;
• Broken or damaged tooth; or
• Lost filling or crown.
We will examine the area, explain what may be causing the problem and talk you through the treatment options. As this appointment focuses on one concern, it may not include every part of a full dental examination.
Mouth Cancer Screening
As part of your dental examination, we will check your lips, tongue, cheeks, roof and floor of the mouth for any unusual changes.
Most changes are harmless, but ulcers that do not heal, red or white patches, unexplained lumps or other unusual areas may need further investigation. We will explain what we find and arrange a referral if needed.
